A printer is a device designed to print information from a computer to paper. They differ by the principle of operation, the number of colors, the type of ink, and the printed material. And each of these types has its own characteristics and additional functions.
The image is created with a printing head consisting of a set of needles (matrix), which are driven by electromagnets. The head moves line by line along the sheet of paper, and the needles strike it through the ink ribbon, leaving an imprint — a dotted image.
However, low quality does not allow using matrix devices in many areas. In addition, these printers have a low printing speed and make much noise.
Although there are some advantages. For example, such a printer can work in almost any conditions and with any paper formats, and prints are not only resistant to friction and moisture, but also significantly complicate the documents forgery.

The laser beam, getting on the drum, lights up the individual points removing the charge from them. Managing the beam, you can draw on the drum with charged and uncharged areas.
The toner is poured down to the drum and sticks only to charged points, thereby forming an image. The image transfers to the paper under the high temperature and pressure.
This technology provides a very good result: the printing speed is really high. The print quality is also very high. In addition, the print is resistant to friction and moisture.
The plus of a laser printer is its ability to print on virtually any paper without losing the quality. Among the disadvantages — high cost, although it is quite cheap to maintain. Also, it does not always reproduce the color well.
Instead of a single laser beam, this type of printers uses a block of LEDs. Each point in the line has its own LED, so the light source does not move, unlike laser technology.
This is the first advantage: fewer mechanics — higher reliability. The second advantage is high speed (from 40 pages per minute). In addition, the print quality is higher than the laser printer, and there are no edge distortions. However, the LED printer has one significant disadvantage — the high cost.
Other types of printers
Sublimation printers — to print pictures, they use a special film. They provide a high quality of photos.
Drum printers are not used anymore. The drum rotated, and when the required symbol moved by the sheet of paper, a special hammer struck the paper, typing a letter or digit through the ink ribbon.
